Thermostat

I live in New Jersey and only drive the car April-October.I think my 1970 Ninety Eight is running hot. I'm going to flush her out and put new coolant/water in. It's due anyway. While I'm in there I'm going to replace the stat. What do you recommend I run to keep her cool. It's the high comp. 455.
Tom.

I like 180*

I put that in the 350 and in my Alero. Both are set to run at 195*

You don't wanna go too cold, too low of a temp can hurt as much at too high

I agree, I have the same in my cutlass. Its a fail safe one that locks open when it gets to hot, my mixture was off at one point in time, and i didnt realize it and left it to idle. It got a little hot, but it didnt do any damage because of the fail safe lol

I have had the best luck with the Mr. Gasket (or Robertshaw) hi-flow units. I got mine off the rack at Otterzone for 13 bucks.
In my long experience with them, they are more reliable and are very well regulating.
As already stated here, 180 is a good temp.

...Forgot to point out that the t-stat pictured in my last post was for my own car - a '72 350.
The 455 ~may~ take a different part number, but maybe not... My old Ford uses this same one; go figure...
