Returning a 400 to it's correct color
Ok, I need some clarification here. The 400 in my 67 4-4-2 was mistakenly painted ( NOT by me) Gold. I want to return it to it's correct color of Bronze. What is the best way to do this? Can I paint over the existing color, or do I need to hot-tank/media blast everything to clean the gold paint off the motor, BEFORE painting the motor back to it's true and original color?
Please advise. Also, where's a good source to locate engine paint that's correct in hue ( color pigment etc) and lasts?? Thanks to all..

If very clean, you can paint over the gold with the coppery bronze used 65-9 on 400s only. Fusick has a good match. Every other repro paint is wrong, often too brown and not metallic enough. I have some Liquid Glaze from the early 70s and also some original parts to compare the repro paints to. Shake the can a long time and occasionally during painting. The correct paint has loads of metallic in it that tends to settle.
