425 oiling
Greetings Olds Fans.I was told that I will need to upgrade the oiling system if I go high performance with my 425.What is needed?Do I need restrictors?
I am thinking 6 or 7 quart oil pan high flow pump and windage tray. Will this be enough? |

Main bearing clearances = .003”
Rod journal clearance = .002” Rod side clearances = .018” Restrict the oil flow through the pushrods. Drill a ⅛” hole in each cam bearing, 180° from the existing one, and install them upside down. High volume pump. 7 or 8 quart pan with 5 or 6 quarts of 10w50, with a Fram HP2 filter. Forget the windage tray. Norm |

Norm,
Years ago I remember reading about a trick of stuffing a pipe cleaner in the pushrod to restrict oil flow. Any thoughts on methods you're familiar with?

I would not put pipe cleaners in the push rods, just would not want to take a chance? Probably the worst the could happen would be a pluged up rocker arm? The one post about redrilling the cam bearings, makes sence. The machine shop I use also says, he has off set the oil hole on the cam bearings. I have the restricked push rods in my 70 W30.
