Gas tank?

Gas tank?
Just pulled the gas tank from my 72 Olds Cutlass Conv. Why does the "vent" line go to a "junction" box in front of the rearend and split in 3 lines entering the tank in the right, middle, and left of the tank? What should happen to the vent line at the other end? Presently just capped off in under the hood. Do not think this is correct.
