1970 455
Found a 455 in a guys garage and he told me a $100 and i can have it. I only had a minute to look at it and the letter on the head was "F". So that's why I am thinking it's a 1970 engine. It's complete minus the carb, but other than that I think it was all there. Going to try and pick it up this weekend.

Hey, hey, hey now, let's be honest with the guy - let him know he's found a RARE GEM that's worth mucho $$$$. cwd56, those "F" head's alone are worth a few thousand dollars. They're rumored to be the best flowing big block head Olds ever made, & are EXTREMELY RARE. If it's an original F-headed 455, it's worth BIG BUCKS ('70 442 engine). GRAB THAT THING LIGHTNING QUICK!!! Awesome find, enjoy it!

This may be the original W30 engine missing out of my car. My 70 W30 came from that area years ago. If you get it, can you send me the numbers stamped on the block?

Well, he was wrong and I was as well. He said he was 100% sure it was an Olds engine, but it's actually a 1971 Pontiac 455. There is an F on the heads, but I guess it's nothing now. I went ahead and still took it for the $100, been having a hell of a time looking for a decent BB motor. I was very disappointed to say the least.
Can anyone tell me anything about Pontiac's 455's?

Don't be disapointed, Pontiac 455s are worth more then Olds 455s do to the fact Pontiac used the 400 as there base big car engine not the 455 like Olds did. Post some pics of it. What # are above the center exhaust ports? JKaz

Well, at least it wasn't a Chevy engine. I've gone to look at a "455" before only to find out it is a 307.
Perhaps you can freshen it up a bit with a gasket set and sell if for a profit to a Poncho guy.

also the 455 wasn't made until 70 in Pontiac, so Olds had two more years on them.
On the front face of the block on the passenger side there should also be a 2 letter code along with an engine unit number. that will help determine the block year and application if the heads aren't original to the block
