looking for help on a 455 bb build
i have a 455 bb olds engine i believe is a 1968 455 i have had the car for about two years and it was a nice tork monster but i developed a lower end knock so pulled the motor to find a bad rod and main bearing and the journals on the crank where realy wore so took to mechanic racing to see if it could be turned but they had a std crank and new rod and main bearing for 300 so i went that route and since the motor was tore down i saw exactly what i had to work with wich was 455 punched .40 over on the pistions but only 8.1 comp so i ordered a set of trw 10.1 comp pistons but with my big valve c heads 80 cc only would be like 9.5 any suggestions how to get it up to 10.1 and i also order a comp cam full kit with the extreme energy 284 h cam lifters valves springs push rodds guide plates studs and steel roller rocker arms i also found my torke covertor to be stock so got one from midwest convetors that is 3000 to 3200 stall and i have a 410 eaton posi in the rear does any one kow if i need oil restrictors or what i would need to keep it for blowing the bottom end again the car is a street car might see what time will turn but mostly street use so any help would help before i get it all back together and balanced thanks

Check the bid block forum lots of 455 builds and threads where the oil restrictor issue is discussed in great detail along with oil pump options and bigger oil pans.

Wow! If someone could read your entire post without taking a breath.... That is the longest sentence I have ever read
. I think you are right on with your build except wanting to exceed you present estimated compression ratio. With today's fuel and the reputation the 455 has for gobs of torque anyway I don't think you need to aim that high. Buy hey, you might be planning to race it so go for it. Welcome to CO.

If you do a search on oil restrictors you'll find several threads discussing it. I liked the post by Joe in this thread:
http://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/...strictors.html Check it out and see what you think. John

Hey,I'm researcing my''dream engine'' right now, this whole oil restrickion thing is kind of confusing. From what i've gathered an olds engine oils too well.Pumping alot of oil to the top of the engine, and poor returns back to the pan.If you use a high volume pump it can suck a stock pan dry.So i'm using a deep sump pan, pick up.Basicly[I'm green horn-on this subject]the restrictors are to keep more oil around the bottom where its needed.I"ve also learned you can clean-up the oil return galley ways ,so oil drains back faster.
I'm still researcing, and with some patience[OK alot of]we can find the answers.Oh i've read what JOE posted ,very helpful. This is a great site people will help,if they can.Later,BO
