I was considering upgrading my ignition system (i have a 1970 cutlass sx w-32) I found a website that sells a HEI system that fits in the old distributor to keep the stock appearance. I am new to all this and probably sound dumb however I'm not afriad to ask questions and plan on falling in line rather quickly. What I don't know I'll make up for with determination to learn and ask questions. Any feedback (good or bad) on pertronix or this type of system would be helpful. Thanks.

I've heard good things about the Pertronix ignition system. Supposedly very reliable and the engine starts fast and runs smooth. Mallory makes an excellent Unilite electronic conversion for GM points distributors, too. Also, Crane Cams makes an inexpensive (about $65 @ Summit) electronic ignition conversion, but I don't know much about it.

In case anyone wants to know. That pertronix system worked great. Easy to install, the car starts up on the the first try, more responsive...I could not be more happy with the pertronix ignition system. Thanks again for the install tips Chris.

I have installed one on both my 66 Olds Ninety Eight and My 66 Catalina. They work great. I have about 20000 miles on the olds with no problems. The olds install is easy. You do not have to pull the dist to install it on the Olds 330, 350, 400, 425 or 455.
