We recently bought a 1999 oldsmobile alero and besides some minor physical defects it seemed like a good buy. However now, the power windows and the power locks do not work. We press the button from the outside and the lights flash like it locked but the door opens right up. What could be wrong? Also the windows dont go up or down either.

First, welcome to our site. Second, have you checked the fuse panel? If you have and the fuses are good, you may have a faulty switch or wiring harness in the driver's door. It is possible a previous owner left the window down in a rain and corrosion has occured, I have seen this kind of thing before. A visual inspection is the only way to tell. Good luck.

The panel in the door pulls out very easy, just start at the bottom with a srcewdriver and gently pry up. Once one clip is out, it pops out real easy.
The switches can be found on eBay or at a local junkyard. ![]() |
