Anyone ever have a issue. My car has been barned 9 years and the right front drum is stuck uber big time. I tried all the usual **** so....

Seen this?

Any ideas like this YouTube vid?

You might try pulling(with a tow chain)the car backwards it will most likely break it free.

If its been in a dry barn should not take much of a tug to break loose.

The shoes stick themselves to the drum. Prying from behind, hammering on the drum and heat from a torch on shoe area of the drum usually will work the drum free.

They do make brake drum pullers, sort of like the homemade one in the video.

Was it always stuck, or did it stick after you stepped on the brake pedal?
If the latter, then you may have a brake hose with a swollen inner lining - cut or unscrew the brake hose and the pressure will be released.

If it's just rusted to the shoes, then, yeah, jogging it sharply one way or the other with a tow chain (not a strap - too much give) may do it.

Did you also try adjusting the shoes in with the adjusting barrel. There is a slot in the lower back to gain access.

Since nobody has mentioned this, I feel like I'm missing something here. You said the right front? And isn't that a '66? Shouldn't the hub come off with the drum?

Holy crap your right LOL ...

I had a leaking brake cylnider. The shoes are glued with dried brake fluid I think.
I have beat it hard with a hand sledge though. Not tried heat and have not tried to loosen the shoes with the adjuster but I will.

So I am having a brain fart. If I have to gear pull the drum off I guess I need to take the hub nut off huh LOL.

I remember now that when I towed it from the pasture to the barn..we pushed it with a truck with a tire between us to not dmamage the front end much. It drug that wheel the whole way so it is stuck BIG TIME. My memory as some issues today. I had a minor stroke in August that kinda kilt my memory some so.

Two things. First, as noted, back off the brake adjuster star wheel. You'll need to use a small screwdriver to push on the self adjuster arm and raise it off the star wheel to allow you to turn it in the retract direction. Despite this, the self adjuster may be rusted anyway.

Second, what's worked for me is cutting or grinding the heads off the brake shoe retaining pins on the back side of the backing plate. This gives you wiggle room to pull the drum (and rusted shoes) away from the backing plate. Eventually, as you work it, the shoes will pop out of the pushrods on the wheel cylinder, at which point you're home free.

And, since we're getting back to basics, the retract direction is downward.

Since the adjuster pushes down on the outboard side of the screw to tighten the brakes, if you want to loosen them, you need to simultaneously press the adjuster finger outboard, away from the adjuster, and roll the star wheel downward, through the adjustment slot.

I had to get mid evil with this sumbitch...damaged the backing plate and bent the snot out of the drum too lol. It was seriously SERIOUSLY stuck. But I got it off and the wheel rolling to get up to the garage from the barn....BOOM

heat the drum cherry red around the axle and it will come right off works every time 1st pb blast it and let it sit for a little while
