1967 442 W30 track pack air cleaner, not for sale....yet.

Found this recently, not mine & not for sale, not yet anyway....
Just wanted to throw this out here to see what the interest level might be. Chrome is a little scratched up & a previous owner had a holley carb under this which caused a few dimples on the bottom section, but is the real deal.

There is no such thing as a 67 track pac air cleaner. They were not numbered like the 66 first style cleaners were. Unless you know the history behind a particular 67 cleaner,no way to tell if it came on a 67 W-30 or not. Not knocking you, just thought I'd give my .02.

66,
Ron Roth told me I should consult with you on this. I apoligize for the improper nomenclature, I'm not very familiar with the '66-'67s.
I can't say for sure, but this air cleaner might belong to a particular '67 W30 drag raced by a guy named Bill Schumaker from the Indianapolis area. A friend of mine has his old car now & my friend bought this air cleaner from a guy that got it from the Indianapolis area. Kind of a confusing story, & there's more to it, but we think there is a good chance it belongs to his car but can't prove it.

Yeah man,no problem with your description and I was partly wrong myself. If a guy built a 67 W-30 from parts, technically it would be a Track Pac but it's all semantics anyway. That's a nice story and it's very possible they were mated together @ one time but no way to tell for sure. Thanks for the info, always good to hear about these cars & parts.

"Induction Pkg." for 1967, nicknamed Track Pack by Curt Anderson, was 230309. Or, as Mike noted, one could buy the individual parts such as the shroud, 398251. Back in the mid 1970s I got my dealer's parts man to order in a shroud for me, but didn't have the $100 or so it would have cost. As a grad student, I made $3-4K per year.

Actually, it was 504. But in all fairness, this is relatively "new information".

I presently have a 67 W30 and fortunately it still had the shroud setup on it when I purchased the vehicle in 1988..... I also lucked out and purchased a complete 66 W30 intake setup back in 1983 for $125 (However, there weren't any ducts or hardware for the air induction). The person I purchased it from wasn't sure what it came off of and didn't have any use for it........ I used it for a while on my 66 but never actually hooked up the air induction with it..... I presently use the three small air cleaners and have the W30 shroud in storage........

Believe it or not, back in 83, I thought it was a lot of money, BUT, like everything else prices do increase with demand..... Saying that, I started purchasing Tri-Power setups to have for backup..... I presently have three spare setups for my 66.... The first One I purchased was only $850 but it had a bad center carb, the second one was a completely rebuilt setup for $1250, and the third was adapted to use three 427 Chevy Carbs for which I only paid $650. I also purchased a bare intake for $300 just to have....

Well I have 3 myself, I paid $1,200 for the first two years ago, one was said to come off a 66 W-30 or Trac Pack. The guy I bought it from, said he had no interest in the air big funny looking air breather, so he just took the tri power, he went back a week later to get the air cleaner, but it was GONE. I did find out later he knows the guy that got the air cleaner & was suppose to get back with me, but never heard back from him. I have one on my 66 442 now & a spare intake.

----Can you 67 W-30 guys tell me weather just the lid is the same as another GM lid (maybe an unchromed one). Seems to me, and this is only supposition, that the Olds guys, for cost reasons, would build the AC base around an already available lid. Could someone give me the dimensions of the lid??? I am obviously in need of one!......Bill S

The 67 W-30 air cleaner lid is the only lid that fits the cleaner. There's been a cleaner around for a few years missing the original lid and no one has found anything that fits correctly.

I took this pic in 2005 at a friend's place in Texas. The yellow one on the left in the garage is a '67 W-30, he has all the goodies for it. The one on the right outside is the most optioned out '67 Turnpike Cruiser I have ever seen, disc brakes, cruise, climatic combustion air cleaner, head rests, rally pak, rear defrost, etc etc but the frame is rotten. Next to the TPC is a stripped bare bones 442 4 spd. All together, he has 10 '67s on his property. 07-02-06_1947.jpg

Around ten years ago I passed on the opportunity to purchase a W-30 air cleaner with lid in fair condition for $1500. Ther is a company that is making reproductions that look pretty nice-

That is Willis Dennis, and I think he has stopped making them; they were carbon fiber.

True, he has quit making them, however, he will sell the tooling to anyone willing to start the manufacturing back up. Tooling for both 66 and 67. Quoted me $4500 less than a year ago.
