1966 Sindwinder Tach not reading right
Hey everyone,
I have a '66 with a sidewinder Tach. I also have an "in-distributer" MSD ignition. The Tach seems to be reading too sensitive. OK at idle, but maxing out very quickly.
I've been told there's an adjusting wheel, but can't seem to find it anywhere.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks,
Mike

There is an adjustment **** (wheel) on the back of the tach. Unfortunately, you have to almost completely disassemble the sidewinder to get to the wheel. It is soldered to the back of the internal circuit board. That being said, if the tach is accurate at low RPM, but not at higher RPM, the adjustment wheel may not cure your problem. That part is a variable resistor (potentiometer) and changing it's value should have the same effect at all RPM's. For instance, if the tach was off by 1000 rpm at all revs, moving the wheel can cure that. Being off at part of it's range only indicates some other problem.
