Original trunk wing?
I just bought a pile of 71 Cutlass parts from a local guy. In the pile was a trunk wing that he said he bought many years ago. It seems to only have 1 big bolt that held on the pedistalls. And the Pedastills are missing. Does anyone know who makes the new repro wings? or how to get a couple pedastills?
Thanks for any leads, Dave |

Check the ebay store for Tamraz. I got one of theirs and it's perfect. Cost me $200 (sale price) + shipping. BTW the pedestals on the wing use 2 mounting studs, not 1. If yours only has that, a) it might be the wrong wing, b) someone was playing with it and broke it then tried to fix it. You might find some on the web or ebay for less, but i doubt it.

I thought the originals had 3 posts?
Actually I was wondering about the attachment point between the wing and the perch. Not the perch and the trunk.
Thanks for taking the time to help. Dave |

Okey dokey. So the wing is what's good, and all that's left. I honestly don't know where you'd find just the pedestals. Based on what I can see on the bottom of my wing, the bolts are encased in the firbreglass and are set at specific locations for the holes that need to be drilled in the deck lid. You can try contacting the aftermarket places and ask them if they'll sell you just the pieces you need. Never tried that before, but it might be worth a shot. Even if you're good with fibreglass and molds, it would probably take more time and effort than it would be just to buy a new repro. Sometimes theres an original on sale on ebay, but they usually end up costing more than a repro, and they might need some fixing. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

Dave, I believe that is right just one large screw that holds the wing onto the pedestals. I've got a factory wing stashed in the garage for my 1970, if I can dig it out I'll take a photo of the connection.
I agree with Allen, your best bet may be to contact one of the repop places and try to talk them into selling you just the pedestals. John

Wing Attachment
Hi Dave
Here's a photo of the underside of one pedestal. I was wrong, this has two large screws that hold it to the wing. I removed this wing from a dead Rallye 350 in about 1983 so I believe it's a factory wing. John ![]()

Wing
Hi Eric
Yes, I don't remember why I removed it when I took it off the car, but you can see the threaded hole just to the left of the screw on the right. John

I have seen reproduction wings and pedestals. The wing had one nut embedded in the wing to accept a bolt to hold it to the pedestal.
Where the pedestal attached to the trunk it had two threaded rods. I saw an original wing from the trunk side and it used 3 mounting points to the trunk lid. I don't know how many bolts were between the wing and pedestal. I have never seen the pedestals offered for sale from a company. Let us know if you find some. |

I think it might be best to just get a repro wing
My son likes the look of the wing so I'm going to keep looking for perches. I called the Parts Place but they are closed for the holidays. It looks like I have only one mounting bolt and it looks to be a 3/8 thread. I think slowolds and the pics prove it to be an aftermarket wing.
Thanks for all the help. Dave ![]() Last edited by MN71W30; December 29th, 2008 at 09:43 PM.. |
