'68 4-4-2 Trunk Weather Stripping

I bought replacement weather stripping and getting ready to install it. At a car show yesterday, one of the judges pulled me aside and told me the difference between first and second place can come down to a very few points and my weather stripping could be the ticket. I told him I had purchased the materials just have not had the time to replace them yet. He also informed me to find the junction where both ends come together and make certain I use the same point. I honestly cannot find this with my factory seal. Really looks like a solid strip.
Just curious where the junction is normally located on these. That would help me find mine. I've looked very closely 4-5X already with a flashlight and lightly pressing on the seal. Junction alludes me so far.
Thanks AOT!!!
Dave

My '68 was judged at the Reno OCA Nationals in 2011 and it won Best In Class with 986 points out of 1000. When I replaced my weatherstrip in2007, the break in the original was on the bottom end, right in the middle. That's where I put the break in my new one.

Hope this helps!

And when you install the new weatherstrip, use black adhesive to glue the ends together...

I dont use adhesive at all. That way I can pull it out and towel out the water that collects on the lower channel and allow the rubber to dry. Its just another thing I do to thwart off the tin worms. I cut mine slightly larger to allow for shrinkage and it holds the ends together nicely.

When you remove the original trunk weatherstrip, take a close look at the cross-section and select a reproduction to match it as close as possible. They seem to differ between the various sources. I found one that was very good, virtually identical to the original. This is not the case for the superseded GM NOS part number that is very high priced on e-bay, it differs from the original GM part number.
