Gas Tank vents on '68 442 ?

Hi guys- this tank has been in storage for years. I know my lines connect to the fuel sender unit (right side of picture).
What about the two openings on the left side....do these remain "open"
Thanks

Two hoses about six or eight inches long go on those outlets and turn upward and fasten under a clamp at the front of the trunk pan...a couple of pieces of one inch long square foam is stuffed into the open end of those hoses as filters. The hoses should reach upward, vertically as high as they can reach. There should also be clamps on the tank end to prevent leakage. '69's had a fancy plastic filter piece that fit over both hoses.

The two lines connect to one of these as described above. Various places you can buy them online, all overpriced for a 2 inch chunk of plastic.

Thank you- appreciate the guidance. Once again- I see that I've chosen the wrong line of business. I should be producing small tubes and plastic pieces for $29!!!
