Hi Everyone,
I am trying to figure out what the wvalue of my dad's car is.
I have limited info but this is what I know...
It's a numbers matching 1968 automatic convertible. It's cherry red w a black soft top and multicolor leather that was refurbished to look like the original leather. New tires are currently on the car but we have the original tires as well.
Anyone know what I should list this car for if I sold it?

Wow, that's not much to go on.
What engine, what options, what model (CS/442/W30/Cutlass) what mileage, what condition etc?? Without any of that information it's really hard to say.

Auto 68 442 Convertibles that are numbers matching sell for between $20k & $25K. A #1 car could be considerably more a #4 car considerably less. Without pics or more info it's hard to get much closer than that

Cherry red would tell me it's not the original paint (unless you consider my car to be cherry red). A pic of the cowl tag will held to tell you if the color and the interior are original. Burgundy was available in 68 and it seems like a fairly rare color but there aren't any breakdowns by color so it's hard to tell

It was repainted, reupholstered, and the convertible top was replaced.

Inside was redone to match original. When I took the picture, they were finishing up.

I clearly arrived a little too soon. I can get updated photos when I go see the car this week.

The paint color is Scarlet. Tell them to get the 442 emblem on the grill up higher


At least the seats are the correct pattern. Customizing generally results in a lower price because you decrease the market for the vehicle.

Do all of the 442's from this year have the same interior?

Ok?? Ah, I just looked at that. Had to go through his profile to get it. Doesn't help when the same question is asked in more than one thread though.

All the interiors are basically the same pattern. They were not two tone. The original interior color and whether it's a bench or bucket seat will be in a three numeral code on the cowl tag.

The interior seat material was vinyl, leather was not offered. As stated by allyolds68, no two tone.

Hijacking someone else's thread and changing the topic doesn't really help either. I've moved all the posts related to this car into this thread. To the O.P.: You'll get a better answer this way.

As for value, the fact that the car has been customized will usually hurt value. From Collectorcarpricetracker.com, it appears that 1968 442 convertibles have been selling in the $7K - $22K range, depending on condition.

Ha funny how quickly one zeros in on what would be subtle to others. Looks like Rudolph to you and I, right!

Kind of curious now. Did you have them paint on the W36 stripe, or was this car ordered with it in the first place? The position of the 442 numerals on the side is critical to proper stripe placement.

FYI - re pics
You can install up to 5 pics per post using the CO site 'manage attachments'. BUT, if you have pics hosted on a cloud, you can just copy the IMG url and paste up to 20 in the same post of the thread. As long as those pics stay in the same location on the cloud, the images will stay here. Images posted to this site on the manage attachments become part of the site data base and stay as long as the site is active.
