70 W-30 color combo

This was a car I had back in '82- '83 It came to me less the motor but otherwise complete. I paid a whopping $500 for it. I completely redid the body and paint as you see it. The baby blue stripe was found under a re-paint so it was kept. Has anyone ever seen that W-30 stripe color ? The roof and interior were factory blue. I sold the car here in Ma. @ '85 with a BB Chevy engine in it. ( had one kicking around ) have not seen it since.

It's not a very common stripe color, but Diego (a member on here) has the old Dover Downs pace car W-30 with that combo. The pic is of another identical white W-30 convertible with it as well. I think it looks great. There are also a few Astro Blue/Twilight Blue W-31s with that color stripe.

Until now I have never seen another one that color. I think I may have spoke to him years ago somehow. That name is familiar. I would always get compliments on the color, especially from the ladies. That was one of three W-30 cars I had back in those days. I had a Nugget Gold car and a Galleon gold car. What the bring today is amazing.

Thanks !

I've seen a few of those, more out there than you would think. Usually the blue stripes are too dark. The Azure blue with blue stripes was a nice color combo

This paint chart shows the available striping colors for the 1970 model year (with their PPG paint codes) in the lower LH corner.

So the chart would indicate that my old Nugget Gold car shown here, was special order paint? Would that have been a 53 code or the -- -- on the trim tag?

It would be -- for Nugget Gold, Sebring Yellow, Aegean Aqua and Rally Red.

My car was originally Sebring Yellow. I changed it to Madador Red in the early 80s. I am considering going back to the Yellow or to Rally Red. Either would match the trim tag.

Yes, however I've seen both the -- and the 51 51 paint codes on Sebring Yellow cars, for example. It may depend on assembly plant or build date.

Hey NoCOPO, yeah, that was me who spoke with you. Remember the story I told you about my friend in Providence who saw your car around 1991 or so?

In fact, I was chatting with a restorer the other day and was relating the story of my friend seeing your old car and then how I later managed to score a photo of what likely is the same car. I guess it's been about 10 years since we've chatted, but I still post on the Yenko site at times.

For what it's worth, I'm one who takes issue with the semantics of "special-order." Yes, Olds had four extra-cost colors, but I consider special-order colors as something that was non-RPO, like ordering a 1969 color on a '70. For Nugget Gold and the other three, I just call them "Extra-cost."

Certainly someone may know more about the data plates than I do, but I have seen cars with both color codes and "- -" indicated on the data plate. I don't know why that is. I also don't know why these four RPO colors would warrant dashes when their color codes were designated by the factory.

That is interesting. I will have to start looking at other optional color cars to see if there is a pattern. My car is a fourth week of December Sebring Yellow built in Lansing and it has the --.

I've seen a white car with "- -" that the owner claimed was originally white. Who knows? It would help if all GM brands consistently did things the same.

My Sebring Yellow 70 is also a December build and has - - , but I've seen later cars with the numbers.

My Rallye Red '70 SX convertible has a "WA xxxx" on the cowl tag for the Dupont paint code instead of dashes or a 2 digit number. My old Sebring Yellow '70 convertible also had the WA code on its cowl tag. They were both Linden-built cars.
