I finally got my '68 442 convertible running after 30 years of sitting. It was glorious to hear it. I called my buddy who gave me the car and he was thrilled, too. After I shut it off, I noticed two piles of red dust behind the exhaust pipes. Obviously the exhaust on there now needs replaced. What exhaust recommendations do you guys have. I could do the Flowmaster/Borla stainless steel aftermarket route, or have my local exhaust guy fabricate the original-type galvanized stuff, but wouldn't know which mufflers to put on it. Of course, I'm going to retain the bumper trumpets, and now you can get them in stainless steel. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

I have a set of those trumpets in stainless steal from PYPES I'll sell for $75 shipped if you need them.
Otherwise if your car is close to stock with manifolds I would go with Dyno max super turbos, nice musclecar sound, not like a Rustang GT, chambered mufflers.

I bought and installed the Pypes system with Dynomax Super Turbos (17749). I have this same muffler on my Pontiac. It has a good sound without the annoying drone found with some mufflers./

X2 on this. Flowmasters have the amazing properties of being obnoxiously loud while simultaneously being among the worst-flowing mufflers in magazine tests. I've used the Dynomax on many of my cars and have always been happy with them. Magnaflow would be my second choice.

Where's a good place to get the Pypes setup? An internet search just confused me.

I just ordered my pypes setup from Jegs last week, if you go to the pypes website they are a little more expensive than Jegs. They gave me a ship date of 6/17 but I got confirmation yesterday they should be there today. Youtube also has a lot of videos on what the systems look like and sound like on different cars, do some research and see what you like there is a lot out there

X2...pricey but installation's a snap and they are as close to factory sound as you can get.

Ok, more confusion. Some Pypes setups are 3" diameter, and some are 2.5" diameter. Some have a crossover or "X" pipe and some don't. Which would be the best setup? The kits from Summit Racing have mufflers already with them. Can I substitute the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers at Summit? After reading the above posts, I'll stay away from Flowmaster. Sorry for my ignorance on the subject. Can I install the system without any cutting/welding? I have a single-post lift at an old gas station I bought about 15 years ago.

I used the Pypes and Dynomax on my 68 442Convert. Give Pypes a call, if I remember they gave me a number that was for a GTO. It was without mufflers, fit is nice and so far no ground clearance issueswith hooker headers. I went with 2.5" system, and used the Walker stainless band clamps to hold it all together.

I checked Summit Racing and JEGS, and they both say that 17749 Dynomax won't fit my '68 442. Anyone have a different #, or are mods required to make the 17749s fit?
