re-uniting my 70 w-30 with original owner

Ok I'll try not to get too long winded. I recently aquired this car. 70 w-30 bench 4 speed. Saw it online a few years back. I then found it in an olds collection this year. Knew I had to have it when I saw all the paperwork. Bought new in northern WI (about 4 hours from me). Original owners dad owned the local olds dealership until around '66. he fell ill and sold the franchise to another dealer (pontiac, cadi and gmc). he told the new owner to sell any of his kids a car at cost with the deal. This car was that deal. Ordered out this way and picked up nov-'69. Car was bought to go racing and is the definition of a 'day 2 car" within 5 months it has keystone mags, headers, intake, carb, 4:33 gears, dash mounted tach (car has the dummy guage) ladder bars and slicks when raced. Car went a best of 12:9's in this form. the welded frame mounts on the front still remain and I recently aquired the old tow bar that was used to pull it. It was retired from racing around '74 and a new rear put in it for cruising and a hitch put on to tow his "faster" '66 "kung foo" race car. (That car is near me also with a 80's repaint on it) The car is all #'s correct and still has alot of original paint on it. I met him a few months back while on vacation up there, met him at his house and got to view his bachelor pad. He divorced in the early 70's and has all the trophies and pics on the walls. I'm heading up with the car tommorrow to reunite them as its been about 7 years since he parted with it. I bought him a bulb for his kodak projector and hes going to let me watch the old 8mm reels of it racing.I'll then have them converted to dvd. I love the history and story with these cars and to be fortunate to have 3 cars currently that have living original owners is a thrill to me. 2 reunions this year alone. anyway I;ll post pics after I get back..but here are a few leading up to this. bobandi.jpg

Pick up day. downtown rhinelander wi. there is a mc donalds there now but rest of backdrop stands. Across the street there is an antique shop that used to be his fathers olds store. Also notice the door jam...usually the tire pressure decal was glove box mounted by 1970. Mine is still there and the blue vin decal is above the latch where they are normally below. can't argue with the picture!day1.jpg

This is a really cool story. Not very many people get this with a car.

Another interesting thing is this decal. I had read that canadian cars were to have had these? This car never went there. The original owner told me it was there the first time he popped the hood.IMG_44941.jpg

The "kung foo" present day. Still retains its crate ls-6 chevy engine from the early 70's. kungfu2013.jpg

Got to visit him with the car as i trailered it up to him saturday. man was he excited to see it. needless to say he was ear to ear smiles and I don't think i could have made him any happier. The youtube link is of part of the drive. He asked if he could..you know get on it a bit! He promised he wouldn't hold the gas to the floor and powershift like he had done many times. Also got to watch his footage of racing and the goofy young guys in their 20's antics. Very neat to see and I can't wait to get them converted.

Thanks again all who read this and who have purchased the "racers of the northwoods" 2 disc dvd set (shameless plug) I have just a small few left. It shows all his race days, 4th of July parades, shenanigans and ALOT of day 2 races of all makes and models (some well known famous cars also). I'm proud to own one man's pride and joy and being able to watch it in action from new in a manner it was intended.

Very cool. I got some history with my car & a few old pics. Googled the orig owner but found he passed on in '90 or '91. The 442 looked to be a gift to himself after his divorce.

Looks like it has the rare C3 vette IRS rear end option in it.
