Carb question
Dear all.
I have 69´ 442 with 400+400 from Canada. It has Edelbrock Performer intake and 650 Edelbrock carb (around 3 years old) with headers and 3 inch dual exhaust. Cam. might be original. Isit sennsible to exchange the carb (not possible to adjust ex. idle speed) to BG Road JR (to 625 or 725???)? Isit here somebody who have done that before and give some tips and differences. BTW: Rear end is changed 3,31(broken satellites) to 3,23. BR Timo Last edited by pobi442 : 05-05-2008 at 02:04 PM. |

I would either run a Q-jet or a real Holley and I would lean to the Qjet unless you are trying to make big power. Qjet is the best bet for mild to upper medium performance. BG junk is only worth its weight in scrap IMO.

Barry Grant carbs sure look nice and my buddy thinks they are great, what with having no gaskets below the fuel level in the fuel bowl and all. I can't say as I have never used one.
edit: with good gaskets and maintenance, Q jets, Holleys, and Edelbrocks don't leak either though.

Thanks for the answer. And wich size is recommended to choose, 650 or 750? It has 600 now and time to time it loose power during the accelration.

I've been using a Quick Fuel Technologies 830 for 2 years now.
It's a holley design and it's been great. They will basically build you a custom carb for your application. Weight, gears, TC, cam, cid...it all plays into the perfect carb. And the best thing is it cost less then a similarly equipped holley. http://www.quickfueltechnology.com/home_2.htm Last edited by Rallye469 : 04-06-2008 at 04:25 PM. |

So, I decide to take Holley 650 (1450). Any experience with this one, it seems to be a new model. Differences between mech. and vacuum secondaries during the adjustment? I hope it is good choice bec. I do not have any experience with carbs from US on the US car ex. Edelbrock. Or some another model fit better on the 400, recommendations?
BTW: Isit nessesary to change the mech. fuel pump to electrical and to use pressure regulator in the fuel line?

You can keep the mechanical fuel pump.

I´m wondering to get some feedback from anothers for fuel consumtion. What can be avarage fuel consumption with 400/455 on the highway (60mph) and in the city? Last summer I get 10 mpg on the highway and 7 mpg on the city. Rear end was 3.31 with 245/50/14 tires.
