1970 442 Identification

Hello there,

Is there a way to identify a true 1970 442?
This is my situation I'm facing. A friend of a friend has what he claims is a real 442. The car came with a 455 and a 4 speed and such. He wants to trade for for my 72 convertible and possibly cash. At first I was thinking about doing it but as I thought about it more mines is running, driving, registered, and valued for a reasonable amount through a classic car insurance company. His is in the body and paint shop and has the engine sitting on a stand. It took me about a year and some work to get mines as far as I did and I don't see myself starting over just to get what may or may not be a 442.

What do you guys think?

For it to be a true 1970 4-4-2, the VIN needs to begin with 344*70...

The * will be a 6 if it's a convertible, a 7 if it's a sports coupe (i.e., post coupe), or 8 if it's a holiday coupe.
