Dash radio

My dash has an unsightly rubbish Japo radio jammed in where the original should be. I have just purchased an original AM Olds radio off ebay for my 1970 Olds 442. Does anyone have advice on the best way to gently rip out the old radio nad install the new olds one. I dont want to damage the dash. Is the best way through the Ash tray or must I dissemble the whole dash, and if so what is the best way to go about it.

It should come out from the rear and underneath the dash. So towards the front of car and down. I see you only having to remove the bottom trim that contains the two airconditioning ducts, IF you have A/C. Maybe...you"ll need to remove the floor/heater air plenum, but should'nt have to. I did'nt. No reason to remove the dash.

I applaud your efforts not to cut your dash, like someone did to mine. If you have an 8 track player, it will have to come out, no big deal. I used the player housing to mount gauges, just so you know.

Radio

You may want to remove the glovebox liner if you can do so without damaging it. That way you can look in from that side and the factory radio had a support bracket between the radio and glove box. I've got a couple of these dashes in the garage if it would help to see pictures of where things mount from the backside let me know. John
