Question Its a real 442??

Hello Im restoring a 1966 olds 442 with 400 engine. Im triying to decode the VIN number, everithing match, but never says its a 442.

how to know if my car is a real 442? what are the characteristics of a 442?

thanks

Alex

And it won't. Prior to 1968 the 442 package was only an option available on certain Cutlass and F-85 models. The 442 only got a unique VIN between 68 and 71.

By the way, what "matches"? Olds did not start putting VIN derivative stamps on the block, trans, and axle until 1968, so "numbers matching" is somewhat meaningless for a pre-68 Olds.

And again, it won't. Before 1972, there was nothing in the VIN or any ID plate that would indicate engine size.

GIve me a breakdown of the cowl tag, engine tag and transmission code and I can fill you in on what you might have.
