What size tire are you using???

I have 15x7 rallies that I got for my 68 442 and I'm trying to find the right size tire. Looking at 225-70-15 or 225-60-15. What size are you all using. Pictures would be great.

I have 245/60R15 on mine. That size and profile is very close to the original 14 inch diameter and keeps the speedometer close.

Using this size on my ride.Had to go for 1972 Olds 98 rear coils to stop the "rub" of the rear tires on the fenders!! Then re-did the front coils to level her out. There are some pics of my car on the "OCC" thread [red on red 69 442] ........Derek

You have to account for the wheels backspace. I use 275/60/15 and have plenty of room but the wheel has a 4.25" backspace on a 15x8. If you run that tire on anything less than a 3.5" backer you'll have trouble.

I am running BFG 245/60/15 on the front and BFG 275/60/15 on the rear. 7" front SS1 wheel vintique's and 8" on the rear. 1" lowering springs on the front and stock rear springs. Sits nice and no air shocks! 72 Cutlass 455. Pic's soon.

Cool Tires

I am using 255/60X15 on the rear of our two '68 442's and have no clearance problems using used Vista springs to get the ass end up...

I wonder if I'm going too small on my 1970 Cutlass? I just ordered BF Goodrich P225/70R14 to go on the original 14x7 Rally SSI's. This tire size was determined from a Tire Conversion Chart based on the old G70x14 (white letter) standard. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...sionchart.html. Any thoughts?

Those are the correct diameter for the car. What engine do you have? Anything with power will over power them in a hurry.

Hi Randy,

The Cutlass Supreme has a 350 v8 with 4 barrel carb. And the differential is geared as highway cruiser at 2.56

You should be OK and have the ability for a little tire smoke if called for .

I had a 2.56 geared 70 run in the high 13's (13.89 @ 97mph) with a mild 455. The car was capable of 150 miles per hour I'm sure, but the suspension left A LOT to be desired so I never attempted it.

This is a good thread. It is good to know what tire size others run so you can have a starting point when buying new wheels or tires for your own car. Now if only I could figure out if I could run 10" wheels on my 98 behind the rear fender skirts.
