1969 442 Newbie
Hello all-
I think my father and I found quite the "girl" this past fall. She's a numbers matching original '69 442 Holiday Coupe. Black with red interior. 400 motor (150 miles on the rebuild). 4 speed close ratio option, original factory radio, original SSII 14 X6 wheels. We are going to get her back to full "original" specifications for possibly show, its just a great father and son project. Could someone teach this damn "newbie" on how to post photos and if anyone really cares to see her, I'd be happy to put them up. I'm just looking for any 442 "veterans" out there to possibly assist with suggestions. We have all documentation for her, including letters, pictures and memo titles from all but two former owners (7 total including us) who had her for a total of 18 months. Have original protecto plates, manuals, holders etc. All receipts for anything ever done to her. She was a "find" as this car was literally in a barn for the last 12 years. All the sheet metal is original, fresh original paint job from previous former owner. We have some exterior work(striping) some engine work (colors and firewall carpet) but mostly its just redoing the original interior as she does show some age inside. We have a lead on the original window sticker as well, have still yet to find original build sheet if its in the interior. Anyway, please tell me how to post photos and I'd be happy to. I'd really like any suggestions or comments, thanks. |

bestest Olds
WELCOME! As a fellow 69 442 afficionado, I congratulate you on your found treasure. IMHO, the 69 442 [mine's a post coupe] is arguably the sexiest, testosterone oozing piece of automotive art ever created! I'm sure you know further documentation like broadcast sheets may be lurking in that beaut in the glove compartment,in the headliner,in the seat springs or under the package tray etc. You will find answers to 99% of your questions here among the 442/Olds vets [ the other 1% is useless info like the value of pi to the 40th digit....oh,right, Joe P. has that info also]Get in your 5 posts, and start the picture show! Welcome
Welcome aboard
I just love 69's. Funniest thing in the last 2 days we have at least 3 guys with 69 sign up. I am not sure but you may have to wait a day to post pics but here's how to. When you reply make sure you're not in the qucik reply box. Hit "Good advanced" Next scroll down below the reply box and you will see "Manage Attachements" When you hit that a new box will pop up in front. Hit "Browse" and look for your pics on your computer. Next hit "upload" and wait a few seconds. Then close that box and hit "Preview Post" and Voila A pic

Welcome! Like Jamesbo says, we seem to be having a nice influx of '69s recently.
Sounds like you have a great find there! If your car is Lansing built, you will almost certainly not find the build sheet. By instructions at the plant, they were trashed. You may find a smaller broadcast card, which would have less information on it. |

Hi...I'm one of those new 69 442 guys who just signed up. I was able to post pics the same day...not sure why.
Speaking of pics, how do you get the picture to attached to every post? (under your name). Must be in settings somewhere? |

Right under the 69 H/O in the banner there is a long thim blue grey box with several options Click on User CP and that will take you to where you can slap up your avatar.

Hey all...thanks for the well wishes, and welcome. I've posted the photos under 1969 442 newbie pictures. Hope you'll give me some feedback. Wmachine thanks for the link posting.
Jamesbro and Derek thanks as well, she's no where near of a beauty of that H/O, christ that's a beautiful car. I'm by no means an olds expert as my first car was a 69 Cougar. So please on these pics if you guys/gals have questions that can help me or can point me in the right directions, I really appreciate any input. Yearone has been a great source so far as that was like a kid in a candy store (ouch, sticker shock to bring her back to life). As I said, my dad's and my ultimate goal is to show her. Were not exactly sure at this point if she came with Red Lines or with Tiger Paw's, so with Wmachines help that should solve some questions. We still have yet to determine the rear axle ratio the year one catalog states that standard was around3.41 for the close ratio (i don't have it in front of me, I'm just trying memory recall) but the option was 3.08/ Does anyone know a real easy way to determine the rear ratio? |

welcome to the board.
![]() the color combo on your car is sharp and rare. to find your gear ratio, look on the rear of the pass side tube of your rear for a 2 letter code.it might be rusty so take some steel wool or sandpaper to it,and it will show up. i know TO is 391,i believe TM is 342,not sure.somebody here will tell you. im guessing it's probably 342 gear, since it's a stick and no a/c. there are plenty of people here that can help decode your date plate, also,to make sure the car came with that color. if you want to get the 442 tips for your tailpipes, you might try supercars unlimited, they are in oregon, might save you money on shipping cost. Thanks AGTW. This car was actually originally sold and lived in your neck of the woods; Mansfield, Ohio Ingrahm Olds. Then it went to Willard and Shiloh, Ohio before making her way out here.
For this newbie, TO? TM?? It's posi-traction for sure. You are correct with no a/c as that was a total different ratio. Thanks for the tips....actually the exhaust was just re-installed back to factory standards last week and the tips just came in on Wednesday. They are being replaced/shaved for fit on Saturday. |
