Hello everyone, 442 question
Im looking at a 1970 thats is being sold as a 442. My question is if its real? It has a flat hood and the 442 is on the grill. I have been going over everything I can find and I see the 442 between the grills on most cars. I dont have the vin yet. Thanks for any info.

thats not a 1970 442.
it has a 1972 cutlass supreme front and grills. If you give a vin# and/or a data plate number we can narrow it down further.
its common for many people to rebadge a cutlass as a 442, but they should never advertise it anything more than what it really is.

The first question everyone should have asked you is, what's the VIN? In the 1970 model year, the 442 was a separate model line with a unique VIN, so verification is easy. In 1972, however, the 442 was simply an option package on Cutlass models. It's possible that this car is really a 1970 that's had a 1972 nose installed after a crash. It's also possible that it is simply a 1972 Supreme with emblems added. What appears to be a "Cutlass Supreme" emblem on the glove box door, along with an external voltage regulator on the firewall, tells me this is NOT a 1970 442, however. Post the VIN (and if possible, a photo of the cowl tag) and we'll go from there.

Pretty much. I'm sure the seller thinks it's worth more than it's weight in gold, also. Note that the car has 72 Supreme grilles, but a 1971 core support, so it's not like they swapped the whole nose.
What a cluster! I'd be wary of how well this pig was slapped together! Although, this photo does make it clear why the 72 core supports are different from 71.
