1988 G body Cutlass Supreme
Hi all,
My name is Phillip and I am a newbie from middle Tennessee. I have been looking for my dad an 88 g body for about 2 years now. I have internet, so I am his "agent!" 2 weeks ago a beautiful black one got away from us for $7k. It was an 88 brougham, black with burgundy interior. Some guy from Cincinnati, OH beat us to the punch on it. We're still sick about that one. My dad is retired and has owned 12 late 80's model Cutlass Supreme's. Now that he hasn't had one in a while, he has decided that his fav is an 88 g body. He is kinda picky in his old age! He wants one that I have described as 1 of a kind, and hard as heck to find! He wants the bucket seats, but does not have to have them as long as it is an 88 model. I have found numerous car's over my hunt, but it's like we just miss 'em. So, I will keep trying to find him that gem he wants. I'm glad I found this site! I looked through the cars for sale forum, but I couldn't figure out how to look for just 88 models. And after about 10 pages, the dates were getting old, so I figured that if I did run across one, it too would be gone!
Anywho, the hunt continues!

Welcome - hope you find just the right car for him.
The 1988 Cutlass Supreme Classic is probably one I see the least for sale. Many more 87's which are similar (Euro style front end).
However, posting a wanted ad might consider someone to sell who has not posted (or even considered selling) yet.
If you wanted an '86, i might even be able to help!
Check craigslist often, with one of those "search all craigs" engines. You might have to travel a ways to find the right one, but you should be able to drive it home.
Best of luck in your search!

Reply to Rob and Sammy
Thanx guys!
Rob, if I knew how to search all of CL, I would certainly do it! But I'm an idiot, and just can't figure out how to search the entire US.
Sammy, I would like to see pix of the 87. I called about an 87 442 today, but it was more less a fixer upper, and that is not something my Dad wants to tackle at 70 yrs old!
Thanx again,
Phillip

Phillip,
If you've done your research you'll know that 88 was the transition year when the G body Cutlass was discontinued in favor of the new FWD models.
It has been widely speculated that the 88 G bodies were in reality only leftover 87's that Olds had produced in anticipation of larger sales. IIRC the G bodies only were sold till about early Jan 88. From then on it was FWD. (don't forget that the sales of these cars typically started in Sept for the 'new' model year).
As Richard has listed a few nice ones for you to consider; I would take that at face value that they 'are still out there'. If you find a really nice 87 though - it's exactly the same car as 88 but under an 87 description.

Yep, I have done my research! He does not like the newer body style with the FWD!
And we all know they are the same car, but he's just got his mind on the last model year of that body style. He has a Chevy HHR that only 4000 of them were made, and that is the diamond in the rough that I am looking for with the Cutlass!
So, the search continues!
Thanx, Rob, for the link! And Thanx y'all!

I so get that, being old and getting what I want...... Sounds like you 2 have a great relationship. Very comforting and reassuring to know what some Son's will do to make their Dad happy! Thank you on behalf of greatful Dads everywhere. Hope you find the perfect car.

LOL! Allan, We do have a good relationship! Just got off the phone with my Dad, and I read him your response. He then say's, "Did you tell him your ulterior motive?" I said, No! Oh, there is an ulterior motive here?! He said, "well yeah! See whatever car I buy, in 10 or 15 years when you think I need to hang driving up, then you will eventually get the car!!!"
So, there you have it guys!!! As his agent, I mean his son, I have to make sure he buys just the right car!!!

Thanx Dirty! We went to Summerville GA. last weekend to see a clean 87 442. The lady has a sweet collection of muscle cars, and wants to sell off her 2/ 80's models to get another muscle car. I drove him the 200 miles down to see it. He looked it over, drove it, picked it apart while on the drive around, took it back, and we left! So, I drove him the 200 miles home and the search continues!!!

Yep. A lady owned it in Kentucky. 13k original miles on it. Her Grandfather bought it new. After he passed away, he gave it to her. Some lucky guy from Cincinnati Ohio got it for 7k.
