I realize this is an old thread, but it's some interesting reading nonetheless. So many shenanigans go on with these cars that guys like me throw up their hands & buy something that's harder & less rewarding to fake. (Ninety Eights & Starfires!)
Seriously though, for my edification, were the side stripes available on any '68 4-4-2? Were only certain color combos offered? Were they part of a package? Is the positioning of the numbers the only way to determine whether the stripes are correct & original to the car, or were they somehow incorporated into the paint code?
I go to lots of shows & cruises & see all these A-body muscle cars, so many of which turn out to be heavily modified and/or clones... They all run together after awhile & I get tired of looking at them. It's a shame- I probably miss out on enjoying some of the genuine & correctly-done cars that are out there. What do the guys who own the real cars think of all these clones???
