Here's my first post on this forum. Question - at which plants were 442s built in '64? The 1964 Inspector's Guide indicates that option B09 was to be installed at the Lansing plant only. Some Olds guys state that they have seen Fremont-built 442s. Are there any documented 442s out there that were assembled in plants other than M?

Also, besides Lansing and Fremont, what other plants built F85s in '64?

difficult to document any '64 442. u are lucky to find a build sheet after this many years. the other issue is that it was entirely up to the guys at the plant to leave the broadcast sheets in the cars. I was lucky to find my '64 cutlass(non-442) Fremont broadcast sheet under my passenger seat. Brittle but still very clear with its options. back to the 442...w/o documentation the only way to figure things out is to look for a couple key things: 1. dual snorkle air clceaner (Fremont plant had pcv valve that went into the side of the air cleaner, while lansing duals had the pcv going into the right snorkle....at least this is what i have seen), my understanding is the dual snorkle could be ordered on any cutlass so you need to take the following into consideration, 2. 4bbl carb, 3. muncie m20 (this is a must....zero autos), 4. dual exhaust, 5. boxed lower control arms with the upper frame mount having three or four hole mount options, 6. drilled holes where the trunk 442 emblem is mounted. most did not have power brakes or power steering since the car was built for power. This is by no means set in stone, some came w/o PB, PS but HAD A/C....go figure, must have been Fremont built.

Other plants....most believe they were built in Lansing and Fremont....some rumors about oshawa but my guess is that these were exported from either of the US plants.

There are a whole host of items to look for in a real 442-optioned A-body for '64; heavy duty frame, shocks, front stabilizer bar, springs, prop shaft, correctly pierced body panels with correctly positioned emblems. I think that the only other engine that may have received the dual snorkel might have been the other police packages with the L76 330. I don't think that dual snorkels were used on lesser V8s.

What I'm asking for is documented proof that there were 442s built in Fremont. It is certainly possible that 442s were built there, but proof is hard to come by. There is no good reason to say that not all '64 442s were built in Lansing. It was a mid-year release, it was a low production release, and Lansing could handle all of the various build iterations such as the CA emissions engines since all of the V8s were already built on campus. Plus, the only Olds documentation I can locate says Lansing-only.

I'd like to hear from an original owner who has paper work proving that his car was born a 442 out of the Fremont plant.

I'll bet that there are a few cloned Fremont F85s and Cutlasses that are now 442s. The only '64 442s I've seen have a Lansing provenance.

BOP plants building F85s in '64 were Kansas City, MO and Baltimore, MD? Fremont, CA was a Chevy plant. Is this right?

Thx TK, I figured some one had some proof. Eric, u might want to check your facts on Fremont being a Chebby only plant...they made numerous GM products, hence the crazy data plates. Other production plants for '64 were Baltimore and the Chebby plant in K.C.

My '67 Delta 88 Custom was assembled in South Gate, CA. I never hear anything about that plant. I don't know the history of it at all.

Found this in my 442 file. It is '64 442 Broadcast sheet from Fremont. Car was posted on ebay in 2007 and from what I remember Dennis Urban looked at the documentation and other photos of the car and felt it was a legit '64 442. A good deal of discussion from a potential buyer took place on another forum...cannot remember which or whether he bought the car, but if he bought it, you should track him down. Maybe someone else on this site remembers more about the 2007 ebay auction of this particular car....the car was out east...New England region.

I didn't mean Chevy-only for Fremont. I think that Fremont was a Chevy managed plant, like K.C., MO. They produced all versions of the GM A-bodies there in '64, plus I think, Chevy/GMC light trucks.

South Gate, CA was the west coast source for full-size GM vehicles for most of the '60s and '70s. Olds production ceased there after 1970. The plant was built in 1936, and was shut down in 1982.
