If you could post a pic or two of the damaged carburetor that would help. I am having trouble visualizing what part of the carburetor is broken. Your best bet would probably be to get a remanufactured Quadrajet from the parts store and turn in the one you have as a core.
BTW, tell your friend that he must be smoking some good stuff if he likes Holleys. They are POS'. Quadrajets are where it is at!
