It started a few times (right after I replaced all the fouled spark plugs and removed the carb for the first time). There was some grit in the bottom of the float bowl but I didn't have carb cleaner and at the time didn't quite grasp severity. Every time it started though it would race for like a minute, maybe less, until it would die. Won't start at all as of the last time we tried but that was when we discovereed the whole gasoline lake situation in the manifold. I THINK we concluded it was that the choke wasn't releasing(?) and it was just sucking down fuel. (I'll have to double check with my slightly more knowledgeable friend who was helping me.) He suggested my options being get a rebuild kit for it, or get a holley that will work for my engine.(He claims the only people who like rochesters are Oldsmobile guys, LOL!) Since the top plate is cracked (one of the little cast-in supports for throttle pump lever) I figured I would see what you guys thought about a new carb.
