My advice is to never skip on filtrartion for the engine. Don't go to an filter just to save space, you should realize the micron rating, anti-flow back valve, alot of things take into play with just an oil filter, but it is crucial to the engine.
Headers are fine, my last set was on a 64 Impala SS 350, but either reroute your filter, or have other considerations as believe it or not, oil filtration is of most importance.
