Don't underestimate the importance of changing the heads. I bought an 1982 Firebird with an Olds 455. I didn't know anything about olds motors and the seller told me it was a W-30. Ran it down the drag strip to a whopping ET of 18.5 seconds. Found out it had smogger J heads, so it wasn't a W-30.
Found 2 sets of C heads at a swap meet. Got em for $75. Sold one set on ebay for $200. Used that extra cash to get the remaining pair cleaned up. Stuck them on the car and it ran a 13.2.
