where are you running it and what are you trying to find out, there isn't much to a 68 VIN except the model, body style, year made plant it was made at and its sequence number.
344678M123456

3 olds
44 - 442
67 - convertible
8 - 1968
M Lansing
123456 = 23,456 car on the assmebly line (number started at 100,000

If you post your VIN, one of us can give you the info you want. Maybe also get the cowl tag info, that's also fairly easy to get info off of.

That's because the on-line VIN services are only designed to handle 17 character VINs, which started in the 1981 model year. In many cases, records for the older cars don't exist electronically.

17-digit vins did not become mandatory until 1981. GM vins were 13-digits through the '60s and 70s. Carfax and other vin seach databases will only work on '81 and up vehicles.

I was trying to get an insur. quote last year and they told me their system would not accept my 78 Pinto's vin cause it was too short.
I told them thats all there is - toss in some 0's in front if you want. They ended up quoting me for an 81 escort! Stupid dumb computer systems...

Post a picture of it or type every character and someone here can/will figure what everything is.
If you have the original engine, the number stamped on it or the oil fill tube may hold some more info.

I hope Joe or some other guru can verify/correct this. I looked through my '68 service manual and this is what I read.

ST - 68-34287 - 1968 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe (2 door no posts)
BODY - LAN 136500 - Lansing Assembly Plant, 136500 is the Fisher Unit Number (no information can be found in this)
Paint - C-F - C is code for Provincial White (maybe white vinyl top) F is for Teal Frost (Body Color ?)
TR 989 - Sienna (Reddish Brown) interior with Vinyl Bench
10A - Not sure, Might be accent stripe (#10?) in black, A is the code for balck stripe.

This sounds like a oddish color scheme, but it was 1968. A light blue bodied car with white vinyl top and black stripes, with a reddish brown interior.

I hope some one else chimes in an confirms or denies this.

Man that would have been 1 ugly combo!!! Lol

Thanks,

I believe the body came white with frost blue interior, it had a vinyl top but it was long gone when I got the car!!!

10A is weird because I saw no sign of a stripe!!!!

Hopefully someone else will take a crack at it!!!!

I don't think that's correct!!!
My dash & the couple pieces that where in the car are frost teal!!!!
I know the bench seat is what came in it due to the column shifter!!!!
Was it normal to have different color seat and panel pieces????

Just because it came with a column shifter doesn't mean it didn't come with buckets.

Provincial White with a Teal Frost painted roof and a Teal interior. A painted top will have the same stainless trim as a vinyl top equipped car where the two colors meet.
