I finally got my *** in gear this last week and got some work done on the car
my arm being out of commision for so long has been driving me nuts.... got my rolling frame prepped and ready for the temp body transplant

So I held off on putting the body on the frame for a few days I have been finishing my floor pans off. I ended up not using the US drivers side front so I had to pull it out and get the made in Taiwan panel.... boy did it fit nice
Spend the day cutting and welding it in with my oldest son who has never mig welded before. Had a great time with him on it.

Yesterdays mistake however was a decent one. I was cleaning the welds up with the grinder and sanding wheel when my hand slipped and the wheel caught my right index finger on the top of my nuckle.... Ouch to the bone in
.003 seconds at a 1/4 inch wide... needless to say I felt like a dumbass and said so to myself

So took the rest of the night off and will get back to it tonight and hopefully get it all primed up

I did get my Drivers floor in and finished... I am seriously considering pulling the passenger side out and redoing that side as well....... the Taiwan pan is so much nicer

long time no post here

going portable......... just ordered a new miller 180...been using my friends 252 for the last bit... the thing is a pain in the **** with full size bottles.
should be here by the end of the week...

Paint has finally been decided

HOK Candy Brandywine over black how much candy we will have to see since I just want a hint of it
Floors are done, firewall is repaired, bucket seat and console brackets done
Front channel repair almost complete rear still needs some attention...
Passenger fender and door done. Drivers fender still needs brace replaced
Car still needs to be dropped back onto the frame for final alignment and fit

I`m taking a jump and painting myself....what the hell need to learn sometime

Still need to find some vintage Crager SS rims... roller rims will have to do for now

still havent decided on body trim.... I really am leaning to none other than the C/S emblem on the sail panel and trunk Cutlass wheel well trim

Oh and yeah.... I have another kid on the way so I really am feeling no pressure lol

Glad to hear of your progress and will be interested to see how your first paint job turns out. For the price to pay someone else it seems like we could paint a car a couple times if we really mess up. Something I need to consider myself! John

I'd keep the 67 body trim (along lower rockers & over the wheeel wells) it looks good and breaks up the car a little. I've seen pics of 66/67s without any side chrome and they just look like they are missing something.

For colors look at the 2008/2009 Caddy Chrimson Fire metallic. Its on the little roadsters they make. Looks awesome. Burgandy in the shade- but it really pops w/ the metallic in the sun.

I should have some stuff to post soon... I've been craigslisting everything that isn't bolted down at home to help fund some spring car projects.

I've got just about $$ to do my front& Rear suspension & jeep Grand cherokee steering box & disk brake conversions- and with the tax refund coming, i'll have the money for the cam & lifters/valve springs for the "unmentionable" new motor- then i'll have everything for THAT project as well..

Suspension/brake swap will happen in the mid april time frame- engine swap later this summer- i don't want to start that until i'm really ready to have the car down for a couple months, as i want to strip/paint the engine bay, etc etc.- plus the new motor will require new exhuast, fuel system, etc etc... Fully expect with my current family obligations that the motor project may take a couple months to get everything in and it back on the road.

Well it seems My B-day came early.... was talking with the guy across the street from me this morning usual BS ...then brought up the topic of the welder I just ordered.... needless to say 5 minutes later in his truck heading to his farm to get the almost new millermatic 185 that`s been collecting dust for the last 2 years...keep it as long as you want if I need it I`ll come use it.........full bottle and ready to go
my weekend is now full of repairs

all I can say is wow.....I have used migs on and off as a hobbyist for years but man with this aftermarket Bernard gun........ slick and easy no blowouts with it and quick work

Starting the rear channel work next weekend and I`ll make sure to get some before and after shots of the work

Someone should know this....

it seems the Sport coupe Body mounts take the same as a Vert.....
my Hardtop kit is 2 shy of what I need

I`m guessing the Hardtop only takes a single mount at the cowl points while my car has 2 on either side.....

Well decided last night to tackle the last bit of metal work on the car this morning
out in the shop by 7 was going to grab some sheetmetal and head up to the shop to bend a few pieces of channel for the rear window.

I started cleaning the lower channel area ..... I should have left it alone
drivers side is so thin..no point in even attempting to do patch work on it
I really didn`t take a real close look at it before.. needless to say a quick call
to 1-800-spend-more-money and a new rear filler panel will be here in the morning

so instead I have been spending the morning drilling out spot welds.... Sail panel spot welds are frustrating to say the least.... spot weld cutter or drill bit they are both pretty much useless in this area

Hmmm... so this part where I find out I did mine wrong?
Yup those spot welds were a PIA! I started with the drill but quickly switched over to a high speed carbide bit and air grinder.
Lots of tweaking here and there to get it to fit right.

patches are in.......... was fun but alot of work. I could not get a drill bit in square on the sail panel so opted out with grinder and cutting wheel on edge to grind the spot weld down enough to seperate them from the sail panel

welds look like crap from the top of the patches but nice from the trunk...... good enough no one is ever going to see them again from up there

the original had a beaded rolled edge for the package tray area unlike the repop

for 2 minutes with flat crimpers made a lot of difference

Hmmm... the fit up I see on the driver side end of the pillar corners matching up looks like the same thing I ended up with on mine. Wish I could remember how I got it to line up better in that spot, it drove me nuts trying to get it looking right!!

67 yeah there are a few things still left to do on alignment.........I`m either short drivers rear near the back of the sail panel or short passenger at the window channel corner
the thing I thought about was in reality I could shorten up the under panel at the channel by vise gripping the channel tighter.....

Good work wes!! Now imagine that WHOLE under support peice is toast- Thats the way mine is- My top peice must be 100% bondo cause it doesn't show any rust- but everytime i open the trunk i've got another bowl of rust cornflakes from that under support peice. I don't dare pick at it, it would crumble....

Luckily some nice canadian dude is gonna hook me up with some virgin sheetmetal this summer!
